The Molecular Design Synthesis and Delivery Group belongs to the Institute for the Organic Chemistry and Photoreactivity of the National Research Council (Bologna). Our research mainly relates to the organic synthesis of new molecular frameworks that can be employed in the field of bioactive molecules.

Drug Synthesis & delivery

campto

Concerning the drug synthesis and delivery, our group has been and extensively involved in the semi-synthetic modification of a number of natural occurring derivatives, such as baccatin, camptothecin, reserpine and other natural derivatives. This research allowed the synthesis of several new lead compounds, many of which are currently under biological evaluation and screening.

Bioactive Molecules Synthesis

taxus

Small synthetic molecules are employed as they are or as building blocks of many biologically active compounds and not only. Our research mainly concerns the enantioselective synthesis of peptidomimetics, anti-cancer drugs and antibiotics, starting from easily available starting materials.

Insecticides Synthesis

rr

Pyrethrum is a natural insecticide which is relatively safe to use everywhere from homes to broad-scale spraying operations. It is one of the few insecticides approved for use on organic farms in Europe, the US and Australia. Our activity in this field mainly concerns the synthesis and semi-synthesis of a new class of pyrethroid molecules with improved insecticidal activity, range of action and able to overcome occurring resistance.

Organometallic Chemistry

yy

Organometallic chemistry is a very useful tool for organic chemists. In the course of the years we have developed a number of organic synthesis base on organometallic reagents, such as Grignard reagents, cuprates, rhodium catalysts and so on.
